The Department of Art History is holding its 2nd Annual Internship Workshop! You don't have to be a declared Art History major/minor/or concentrator to come, but it helps 😃!

Students who participated last year applied to summer and year-long internships and were wildly successful! You'll learn all the tips and tricks YOU need to land a great internship in art history and related fields such as museums (all aspects), libraries, archives, galleries and more!

We'll hear from several of our current students and alumni about their experiences seeking out and landing internships as well as feature the exciting opportunities available through the Global Engagement Program, which includes an internship component. (An Art History alum participated in this program in 2016 and interned at the Rubin Museum of Art.)

Light refreshments will be served too!

Keynote speaker Melissa Gohlke is an urban historian who specializes in San Antonio LGBTQ+ history. For over a decade, Gohlke has been researching queer history in San Antonio and South Texas and sharing her passion for this history through extensive outreach activities such as presentations, media interactions, exhibits, and written work. Gohlke is the Assistant Archivist for UTSA Libraries Special Collections.

In her presentation, titled “Cradle of Texas Gay Liberty: An Alternate History of the Alamo City,” Gohlke will explore hidden threads of San Antonio’s history and stitch together an alternative interpretation of the city’s historical narrative by examining a wealth of primary sources found in archives and personal collections. On Sept 5, Prof. Carso's courses, Art of the Hudso

On Sept 5, Prof. Carso's courses, Art of the Hudson Valley, and Columns & Cast Iron: Architecture of the Nineteenth Century, met on site at @huguenotstreet.

SUNY New Paltz alumnus Kevin Cook '80 (BS in @sunynp_arted ) is shown talking to the students. Kevin is a painter in the tradition of the Hudson River School and was one of their HHS tour guides. He told Professor Carso that he had taken "Art of the Hudson Valley" the first time Professor Emeritus, William B. Rhoads, taught the course! What a cool connection!

Some alumnx who have taken Professor Kerry Carso's @kdcarso Art of the Hudson Valley are now working in fields related to the course! She has had serendipitous reunions with two of them at important Hudson Valley sites!

This summer while at the Thomas Cole National Historic House @thomascolesite to see the exhibition, "Women Reframe American Landscape," Prof. Carso ran into Beth Wynne '19. They had a nice long chat! Beth has completed her tenure as '22-'23 #colefellow (!) and is now working as The Cole House's "Youth and School Outreach Coordinator." Here they are on the beautiful porch of the Cole house with the Catskills in the distance.

Mitchell Saler '11 (BFA Painting & Drawing) is a landscape painter who is another alum of Prof. Carso's Art of the Hudson Valley. While visiting Mohonk Mountain House @mohonkmountainhouse recently, Professor Carso ran into Mitchell who was painting en plein air and displaying their work.
